Who We Are
Groundwork Strategies is a community development strategy firm rooted in the Shenandoah Valley and strengthened by nearly 30 years of nonprofit development experience. We help organizations, localities, and housing partners move early ideas into concrete, achievable outcomes. Our work is grounded in real community conditions, shaped by local voices, and focused on building systems that strengthen resilience over time. Whether the goal is affordable housing, community facilities, cross-sector alignment, or long-range planning, we provide the clarity, strategy, and practical know-how needed to turn vision into action with purpose and confidence.
Our Mission
To deliver practical, place-based strategies that strengthen communities, expand housing opportunities, and support the nonprofits and partners who make long-term resilience possible. We turn vision into reality through grounded consulting, technical expertise, and collaborative community development.
Our Vision
Thriving communities where housing is stable, systems work together, and every organization has the foundation it needs to build lasting impact. We envision a region where strategic planning, equitable investment, and efficient development practices create real, measurable change.
Our Philosophy
Every project must begin with community-trust–focused design. Communities know their own needs, strengths, and challenges, and their lived experiences should guide both vision and implementation. Trust isn’t an add-on; it is the foundation that makes real community development progress possible. When communities are meaningfully heard and included, solutions align with local priorities and on-the-ground realities. This approach leads to stronger outcomes, smoother partnerships, and housing projects that last.
Our Core Principles
-
We start with what’s actually possible on the ground: real sites, real budgets, real timelines. Our strategies are practical, data-informed, and built to move projects from idea to implementation.
-
We center the people who live with the outcomes. We listen to residents and local partners, elevate their insight, and shape solutions around lived experience rather than outside assumptions.
-
Every community has its own history, assets, and challenges. We honor the character of the Shenandoah Valley and each neighborhood we work in, designing projects that fit the place instead of forcing a template.
-
Our goal is stability, not quick wins. We support durable housing, resilient systems, and partnerships that can stand up over time, so communities are stronger years after the ribbon-cutting.Description text goes here
-
We don’t just write plans and walk away. We break complex problems into clear next steps, help teams make decisions, and stay focused on moving work forward when things get tough.
-
Housing and community projects succeed when everyone pulls in the same direction. We connect nonprofits, builders, funders, and local governments so efforts are aligned instead of fragmented.
Every strong project starts with an idea — a need in the community, a vision for something better, or a challenge that requires a clear path forward. At Groundwork Strategies, we help turn those early ideas into practical, achievable plans. Our team brings decades of experience in construction, community development, and nonprofit strategy, working side by side with partners to move projects from concept to solid ground. We’re here to listen, to guide, and to help build what lasts.
